Colorful but a bit more complex and for kids under age 8, up to 1,000 words.

Educational and up to 3,500 words, straight text and no color illustrations.

Books kids read by themselves, with more action and dialogue, up to 30,000 words.

At first glance, books for children look and feel simple. They contain a lot less words than do books for adults, sometimes just a few hundred words. ``The Cat in the Hat`` by Dr. Seuss, for example, contains only 225 words. But experience shows us that every single illustration and every single word counts. Children are unforgiving book critics! So when we publish a children's book, you can count us to make sure it's 100% kid-friendly.
